Our Publishing Focus
Virgola Press maintains a carefully curated catalog that reflects our specific editorial vision and publishing goals. At this time, we primarily work with solicited manuscripts and authors with whom we have established relationships. While we understand this may be disappointing, this approach allows us to maintain the quality and coherence of our catalog while giving proper attention to each project we undertake.
Submission Guidelines
If you believe your work aligns exceptionally well with our catalog and you would still like to submit for consideration, please note the following:
Format Requirements
- All submissions must be in electronic form only
- We do not accept physical manuscripts or materials
Review Process
- Submissions are reviewed by our editorial board
- Due to the volume of queries we receive, we are unable to provide feedback or enter into correspondence regarding submitted materials
- Please note that we do not offer editorial services or manuscript development assistance
How to Submit
Send your submission to: submissions@virgolapress.com
Please include:
- A brief cover letter introducing yourself and your work
- A one-page synopsis of your manuscript
- The first three chapters or 50 pages (whichever is less) as a PDF or Word document
Response Time
While we make every effort to review all submissions, please understand that:
- Response times vary depending on editorial board availability
- If you do not hear from us within 90 days, please consider your submission declined
- We are unable to provide status updates on submissions under review
A Word About Unsolicited Submissions
We want to be transparent: the majority of projects we publish come through established literary agents, personal recommendations, or direct solicitation of authors whose work we admire. Unsolicited submissions face significant competition for very limited slots in our publishing schedule. We encourage you to:
- Research publishers whose catalogs truly match your work
- Consider working with a literary agent who can advocate for your manuscript
- Continue developing your craft and building your author platform
